Dedicated Server

Our 100% fully hands on, Proactive management package is provided with all managed dedicated servers. This puts the administration of the server completely in our hands allowing clients to use the server as though it were a large shared/reseller account with everything else handled by us proactively. We purchase server grade hardware from HP based on their revolutionary Bladesystem technology. This enterprise level hardware allows for server components to be smaller to fit into the blade chassis while each blade still has its own CPU(s), RAM, hard drives and internal components. The only component that is not within the dedicated blade is a power supply which is not required due to the redundant power being supplied from the main blade enclosure.  For more details about what blade servers are please see our blog post on the subject.

We use multi core Intel Xeon CPU’s in our servers which have shown this superiority over their AMD rivals in the role of web hosting server tasks.

RAM is a core component to servers and allows applications to be executed at full speed without any bottlenecks.

RAID allows multiple physical hard drives to run as one storage device where data is mirrored across multiple drives. Due to this, a hard drive can suffer a complete failure without any data loss or downtime. Servers with hotswap capability can have the drive swapped and RAID array rebuilt without any service interruption.

The primary storage is used for the operating system and all server files and settings. In a general web hosting environment we have found 10,000rpm (4ms seek time) SAS drives in a hardware RAID array to be extremely high performance and capable or writing/reading data at very high speeds. For this reason these are the recommended drives for our dedicated servers.  For those requiring larger capacity over performance we offer larger capacity 5,400rpm (12ms seek time) SATA drives at the same cost.

All dedicated server rental come with a gigabit network link to our high capacity iSCSI SAN (storage area network) allowing all backups to be stored outside of the server. Backups are taken once per day with daily, weekly and monthly archives stored (space allowing).

Data transfer is the amount of data that can enter or leave the server to/from the internet in general. We provide real time usage graphs to show the data transfer trends along with all usage figures. Note that our data transfer is calculated on an “in + out” basis.

Our dedicated server hosting UK setup fee is a one off fee to cover initial hardware installation, software install and configuration and other tasks associated with putting a new dedicated hosting server online.
