More detail?
We insist that one can never be too careful when it comes to backing up data so have a multi-tiered backup regime in place.
Tier 1 – redundancy
While not strictly a backup system, we have measures in place on all servers aimed at minimising the need for backups entirely. All machines are equipped with hardware RAID which massively minimises the chance of server restores from backup by implementing redundant storage systems.
Tier 2 – local backups
In each server we have a separate hard drive which stores all tier 1 backup archives. All servers gather backups each night to the separate hard drive storing daily, weekly and monthly archives of each hosted account and other system files. All users can access their account backups via their cPanel® backup page and we strongly recommend that clients download their own backups in addition to our regime.
Tier 3 – NAS backups
Our most recent development in this area is the addition of a ground breaking system for backing up complete server filesystems in a live environment to a totally separate high capacity NAS server (network attached storage). Using this system we are able to run snapshots of each server every few hours so if the worst should happen and a full restore is needed, it can be done in a matter of mouse clicks! Gone are the days of full restores taking many hours because with this system a server can be restored to it’s exact state before the problem in just the time it takes the data to move though the local network.
